Relocation of paya lebar airbase
When the Paya Lebar Air Base is relocated in the 2030s, the site it currently sits on could transform into a heritage district, built around existing infrastructure. This will progressively be developed into a new town comprising housing and recreational facilities as well as work spaces. Height restrictions around Paya Lebar and its surrounding areas will also be removed, allowing for future taller developments in these areas.
Paya Lebar Central
Under the 2008 URA draft master plan, Paya Lebar Central (PLC) was identified as one of the commercial hubs to be developed outside the city centre. The area next to Paya Lebar MRT interchange will be transformed into a vibrant commercial hub with office and retail developments.
The Kallang River presents rejuvenation opportunities for new homes, work places, recreation and community spaces. With its route winding through the central region of Singapore, both public and private housing will be introduced in precincts along the river to enjoy the great connectivity.
The existing Kallang Industrial Estate will also be transformed in the longer term into an attractive mixed-use precinct along the waterfront. Approximately 800,000 people now live within 2km of the Kallang River. Over the next two decades, there is a potential to introduce another 100,000 dwelling units into the area.
Old Kallang Airport
In the longer-term, the larger area around Kallang Riverside will be developed into a mixed-use lifestyle hub. In the interim, the conserved old Kallang Airport area will first be made available for a variety of sports, leisure and community uses.
